Sleep ... so elusive



Do you remember sleeping in on the weekends? Me neither. What is with children? You can't drag them out of bed on a school day, but on the weekends they are ready to get the day started at 4:30 in the morning. And naps ... on a Saturday or Sunday ... you must be joking. But at school 2 1/2 hours at least.

Jealousy

Turtle had a rough day. She was feeling very excluded no matter what we did to help her understand that she was a valuable member of our family. Here is how our day went: Trip to Lamar's donuts where Turtle got 2 donuts and Mei Mei had Cheerios. Trip to grocery store where Turtle rode on the back of the cart and got to put the items in the cart. Home, put groceries away, fed the girls a snack. Played on the floor a little bit. Put Mei Mei down for a nap. Turtle watched golf with her daddy and she and I read from James and the Giant Peach. Naptime over, playtime with both girls. Turtle was allowed to play with my put-together legos, specifically the VW bus. Turtle helped me cook dinner. Why a toddler puking on the couch makes for a great birthday

Today is my birthday. I'm 44. I have a very sick Segunda on my hands. The child can't stop coughing and she throws up and she chokes on her own snot ... you get the idea. My husband is starting to get sick too. Prima's birthday was Wednesday, but we didn't celebrate it until yesterday. Husband travels to Houston very early tomorrow morning. I took Prima to the birthday party of a classmate today. It wasn't much of a birthday. And as I wracked up the sympathy from the kind people who called to wish me a happy birthday, I realized that this is the best birthday ever. You see, I have a husband whom I have been married to for over 15 years. I have a lovely home. I have 2 children. What more does one need to have a great birthday? I don't have a title except a weakness maybe

By now, you know that I took Prima on a four day trip to San Diego and filled up our love buckets to the brim. It was a bit of a respite from our everyday worries. Now, we are back and reality is still there. Segunda is sick. She is coughing incessantly to the point of vomiting and she has a low grade fever. And I just want somebody else to come and take care of it for me. Husband is away on business. I have to get to work, and the second she gets sick, panic sets in about my job. Will I lose it if I have to stay home with her because I just took 3 days off of work? She's been sick for 6 days. When do we see a doctor? Why can't she stay healthy for longer than a few days? I've been back for a little over 24 hours and I'm already a panicked, tearful, frustrated mess. I don't know what to do for her. I don't know how to make her well.
